This episode of the Greed for Ilm Podcast, I talk about the unfortunate and tragic killing of unarmed African American, Michael Brown Jr, in Ferguson, Missouri by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. This event sparked massive protests which in turn has lead to cases of police brutality. I discuss the abuse of power, how local law enforcement ended up with military grade equipment, and ways to fight back.
A little over 29% of Ferguson residents are White and 67% are African American, yet only 3 police officers out of 54 total are African American. The mayor of Ferguson, James Knowles, is white. That being said, it’s no surprise that majority of Ferguson residents have accused the local law enforcement of racism.
When your local law enforcement point military grade machine guns at you while you have your arms up, that does strike a nerve. We live in the United States of America, not Iraq.
Thanks to social media (Twitter, etc.) and technology like smartphones with cameras it’s becoming harder for police to get by with unnecessary use of power. It’s our duty to keep recording them and letting them know that WE are watching THEM!
