I came across this NBC article so I decided to do a quick solo podcast. The article is written by Amna Nawaz and is titled: “Ramadan Forces Muslim World Cup Players to Decide: Religion or Sports?” Should Muslim football players fast during Ramadan is not the question here. There are two points I discuss in this episode. The first of which is the choice of words Nawaz uses in her title. I am not saying Nawaz used the word “Forces” intentionally to bring a negative connotation but I believe she could have been a little more considerate in selecting the right word. The second point I make is whether it is of any importance to even bring light to this topic. There are tons of Muslim athletes in the NBA, NFL, and the World Cup. Obviously, there will be those who fast during Ramadan and those who do not. Religion always boils down to a personal choice. Whether you choose to fast or do not is between you and Allah. I welcome your thoughts on whether the Muslim World Cup athletes should fast or not during Ramadan. Feel free to tweet me, or leave a comment below!
